Treating Animals and Pets with Reiki

Although Level 1 training and empowerment is primarily for Self Healing you will also be able to treat others and for the pet lovers amongst us it is particularly satisfying to be able to treat our own pets.

We know Animals are very sensitive creatures so it is understandable they are also very sensitive to Reiki energy and most will be very happy to receive treatments in this way.  If you would like free remote healing for your pet email me on reiki.joan@hotmail.co.uk or write to me at the contact detaiils on page 3.

If you would like me to give a talk on Reiki to any group you are involved with please contact me to discuss.

Below is an excerpt from my Reiki manual on animals:

  • Animals can be helped to heal and balance through Reiki
  • The smaller the animal the less treatment time they seem to need at one time.
  • You may want to team up with another Reiki therapist to work on a horse
  • 30 minutes is a rule of thumb, add more or less depending on the animals energy level.
  • The animal may walk away when it has had enough, and may follow you around when it wants more.
  • Let the animal assume a comfortable positon and work your treatment around it more slowly and speak gently and quietly.  If the animal is not yours and is nervous of your presence you can beam the Reiki from a short distance away or you could send it Remotely if you have Level II empowerment and above.
  • Generally, start a treatment just behind the ears.  After that treat the rest of the body, paying special attention to areas of pain or illness.
  • If you are working with a vet, find out which organs are involved and treat as you would a person
  • For smaller animals like mice and birds, simply cup them in your hands.

For serious medical matters regarding your pets it is always advisable to check with your Vet. Reiki Therapy is not meant to be a replacement for professional Vetinary care but can happily work alongside any conventional treatments.  As with humans, please do not stop any prescribed medication or treatment unless on the advice of a qualified vet.

Important Legislation with regard to treating animals

It is essential that you obtain veterinary treatment for a sick or dying animal.

The Veterinary Surgery Act of 1966 prohibits anyone, other than a qualified veterinary surgeon from treating animals, including diagnosis of ailments and giving advice on such diagnosis.

However the healing of animals by contact healing, by the laying of hands or distant healing is legal. The Protection of Animals Act 1911 requires that if an animal clearly needs treatment from a veterinary surgeon the owner must obtain this. To give emergency First Aid to animals for the purpose of saving life or relieving pain is permissible under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 Schedule 3 (taken from the UK Reiki Federation Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice - March 2002)
